Life Legacy

RICHARD LEE SCHWARTZ

Richard Lee Schwartz was born on December 25, 1931 on a farm near Dallas, South Dakota. He was the son of George and Ruth Schwartz. He attended schools in Dixon and Gregory. The family moved to a farm northeast of Colome in 1947 and Richard graduated from Colome High School in 1950. After graduation he enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed in England. He was called home early to help with the family farm due to a heart ailment of his fathers.

On May 10, 1954 Richard was united in marriage to Ruth Marlene Harter. To this union two children were born.

Richard worked hard and long hours on the farm. He loved planting and watching his crops on a daily basis.

Richard enjoyed his many hunting trips to Wyoming with his friends and his trip to Alaska fishing. But after every trip he would proclaim there is no place like Colome, South Dakota!

He continued on with the Pheasant Hunting after Ruth died. He has many close friendships with his hunters and looked forward to seeing them all in October! He and his beloved hunting dog Sarge Couldnt wait for opening day of the hunt.

In September of 2000 he met Mary Kaiser. She brought joy back into his life. They enjoyed meeting friends in Colome for dinner and playing cards. She was his navigator on the long road trips to Denver.

In February 2006 he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Through his courageous battle, many friends visited him. He appreciated all of them who showed him love and support.

Richard attended St. Isidores Catholic Church for 60 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post Thayer Water #146.

Richard is survived by his daughter Kathy Carlson of Denver, Colorado, Gregg (Marlaina) of Denver, Colorado, brothers Jim (Peg) of Gregory, South Dakota, Chuck (Shirley) of Colome, South Dakota, sister Patty of Mandan, North Dakota, his dear friend Mary Kaiser of Pierre, South Dakota and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, his parents and his dear hunting buddy Sarge.
