Trapper Jon McClanahan age 29 of Winner, SD passed away Saturday, July 3rd in Lincoln, NE.

Trapper was born June 20, 1981 in Winner, SD to Roger McClanahan and Alma (Mowery) McClanahan.

He grew up in Winner. He lived and worked with Harry V. Jorgensen while attending high school. They had many successful projects together. Trapper graduated from Winner High School in 1999. He went on to attend Mitchell Vocational Technical School, graduating in 2001 with a degree in Power Lineman. Upon graduation he moved to Hastings, NE to work for Watts Electric Company as a Power Lineman. He later moved to Lincoln, NE to continue his employment with Watts Electric Company as a Superintendant.

Trapper’s favorite charities were NET TV and Public Radio. Trapper enjoyed spending time helping friends and family with projects and traveling. Some of his traveling highlights include England, Mazatlan, Ireland, Cancun, and travels in the United States.

He is survived by parents Roger (Betty) McClanahan of Virgil; Alma McClanahan of Winner. Siblings include Bart (Alicia) McClanahan of Lakeworth, FL; Tye (Jessica Jackson) McClanahan of Watertown, SD; Tracey McWhorter of Artesian, SD; Tad (Brenda) McClanahan of Colome, SD; Robin McClanahan of Lincoln, NE; Quince McClanahan of Hesperia, CA; Blake (Dawn) McClanahan of Wood, SD; Angel Tunnissen (Gordon Ottenbacher) of Aberdeen, SD: Lana (Ben) Westergren of Mission Hill, SD; and Darla McClanahan of Lincoln, NE. Nieces and nephews’ include Cassandra Propst, Clarissa and Tyler McClanahan, Kelsey McWhorter, Wade McClanahan, Levi and Riley McClanahan, Shay and Ian Tunnissen, Ava Ottenbacher, and Paige Westergren.

Trapper is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.


Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July, 10th at 10:30 AM at the First Christian Church in Winner. Burial will be in the Winner Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Friday, July 9th from 4-8 PM at Mason Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
