David Waters, 48, of Carter, SD, passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

David Melvin Waters was born on March 28, 1962 in Winner, SD to Dale and Betty (Bice) Waters. He was the sixth of nine children. He spent his whole life on the family farm.

Dave attended Carter Grade School and enjoyed country conference basketball, Jolly Mixers 4-H Club and he participated in Grade School music contests. He attended Winner High School where he was involved in wrestling and the music program of the school playing trombone in the band and singing in the choir. He was selected for All State Choir his senior year. He graduated from WHS in 1980.

He entered the family farming/ranching operation working with his father and brothers, Steve and Doug. His main work was feeding cattle, helping with calving, tilling the ground and putting up hay. He also did a lot of the custom windrowing. Sam, his young nephew, thought Dave lived the ultimate life “driving a Big green tractor and drinking Mt. Dew all day long”. Dave really enjoyed hunting pheasants and deer. He nearly always spent the opening day of the deer season in the Black Hills.

In 1974 David accepted God’s gift of salvation by receiving His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, as his Savior. He became involved in Christian Singles Ministry and made many close friends that blessed his life.

May 17, 2010 he as diagnosed with A Plastic Anemia. He was hospitalized in Sioux Falls, SD and was being prepared for a bone-marrow transplant. Pneumonia took over his body and he went home to heaven to be with his Savior June 29, 2010.

Grateful to have shared his life are his parents, his brothers Steven (Marlajean) of Carter, SD; Michael (Mary) of Idaho Falls, ID; W. Douglas (Kristine) of Carter, SD; Tim of Pierre, SD and DJ (Natasha) of Park City, KS; sisters, Robyn (Tom) Carlson of Biwabik, MN; Kaye (Roland) Gylfe of Beresford, SD and Nicole (Rich) Tims of Shell Lake, WI; several nieces and nephews: Nick, Brad and Amy (Waters), Colin, Austin and Tyler (Waters), Julie and Rebecca (Jorgensen), Elizabeth, Samuel and Ruth (Carlson), Trevor and Kaleb (Waters), Summer (Bennett), Abby, Meghan, Taylor and McKenna (Gylfe), Allison, Hadley and Raegan (Tims), Brianna, Tripp, Alaina, Tamarra and Troy (Waters).

Preceding him in death were his infant nephew Travis Waters and nieces Emily and Erin Waters, paternal grandparents Walter and Rose Waters, maternal grandparents Melvin and Roberta Bice and aunt Patty Bice.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 2, at the United Methodist Church in Winner, SD. Burial will be in the Winner Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 1, from 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Mason Funeral Home in Winner.
