Vera Van Schoonhoven, 95, of Winner, SD, passed away on Friday, January 08, 2010, at the Winner Regional Healthcare Long Term Care Facility.

Vera Mildred Van Schoonhoven was born January 18, 1914 to Walter and Effie (Billings) Van Schoonhoven of Colome, SD.

She graduated the eighth grade from Central School. She worked as a hired girl for neighbor ladies. In 1935, she moved to her sister and brother-in laws farm north of Clearfield. This is where she made her home. Her longest employment was as a housekeeper for C.J. & Blanche Grossenburg in the 1940’s and 1950’s and then from the 1970’s to 1994. She retired in 1994 at the age of 80. In between times she worked on the farm milking cows and helping in the hay field.

She had a special love for children. She made her choice in her youth to serve the Lord and continued to do so until her final day.

Vera is survived by her nieces, Laura Delaney, Sioux Falls, SD, Effie (Dwight) Anderson, Clearfield, SD, Janet Long, Ft. Pierre, SD, one nephew William (Rosemary) Hartland, Winner, SD, and the families of Lorena Paczosa, a special grand nephew Dan Hartland, Winner, SD, sister-in-law, Leona Van Schoonhoven, Rapid City, SD, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and four sisters, niece Lorena Paczosa, great grand nephew Willie Hartland, and great grand niece Darcy Dougherty.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 11, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Mason Funeral Home in Winner. Burial will be in the Colome Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Sunday, January 10 from 4-7 PM at Mason Funeral Home in Winner.
